Lauren Schroeder, a 17-year-old from Dixon, Iowa, has been growing and donating fresh produce to families in need in her community.

After noticing a lack of fresh vegetables at a community food nonprofit, Lauren decided to start her own garden on her family’s farm.

With the help of a grant from the National FFA Organization, Lauren planted half an acre of vegetables in 2022 and expanded to a full acre this year.

Over the past two years, she has donated over 7,000 pounds of produce to local food banks and nonprofits. Lauren plans to continue expanding her garden and hopes to donate 20,000 pounds of produce by the time she goes to college in 2025.
