Widespread rain is forecast to impact the state Tuesday into Wednesday. A brief period of a wintry mix is forecast Tuesday morning over western, central and northern Iowa before the precipitation transitions to all rain by the afternoon. Periods of rain continue Tuesday night into Wednesday. A widespread swath of 1 to 2 inches with a few locations likely to receive near 3 inches by Wednesday night. With the warmer temperatures melting the snow pack over the next few days along with the anticipated rainfall mid-week, river flooding is likely over many of the river basins by the end of the week. In addition, flash flooding from ice jams is possible with the rain and warmer temperatures to help break up the river ice.
