IOWA CITY — College basketball players are spending this summer adjusting to a deeper three point shot. The NCAA is moving the three point line back to the International distance of 22 feet, one and three quarters inches. The arc was previously set at 20 feet, nine inches. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery.

McCaffery hopes the change will give Iowa’s interior game more space.

Sophomore guard Joe Wieskamp worked with a longer three point shot while spending some time exploring the NBA Draft. He finished second in the Big Ten in three point percentage as a freshman.

Junior center Luka Garza hopes to keep the three point shot in his arsenal. Garza made 21 shots from distance last season.

Garza says no matter what the distance he wants to improve upon his 29 percent from three point range.

DES MOINES — Iowa NCAA discus champion Laulauga Tausaga will be one of several college standouts who will challenge Olympic veterans next month at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines. Drake Relays Director Blake Boldon says a pair of NCAA standouts will help make the men’s 110 meter hurdles a loaded event.

Boldon says Florida NCAA champion Grant Holloway and runner-up Daniel Roberts of Kentucky will both make their pro debut in Des Moines. Roberts won at the Drake Relays in April.

Only the top three will qualify for the U-S team that will compete at the World Championships.

The U-S Championships are July 25 through the 28.
