CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake girls jumped out to a 23-3 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 60-28 win over Webster City in North Central Conference basketball last night, as you heard on AM-1490/96.7-FM KRIB and kribam.com. Sara Faber had 21 points while Chelsey Holck added 13 to lead the Lions, who are now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Clear Lake boys outscored Webster City 24-10 in the first quarter on their way to a 67-41 win last night in North Central Conference play, as you also heard on KRIB. Carson Toebe had 24 points while Andrew Formanek added 21 to lead the Lions, who improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Both Clear Lake teams head to St. Edmond on Friday night to wrap up the 2019 portion of their schedule. You can hear the doubleheader on KRIB starting at about 6:15 on Friday night.

 

 

MASON CITY — Newman swept Rockford in a Top of Iowa Conference East Division doubleheader last night, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO and kgloam.com. Kealan Curley had 16 points to lead the Knights girls to a 59-21 win. Newman is now 4-3 overall. The Newman boys picked up a 62-58 win to move to 3-3 on the season. The Newman squads will host Northwood-Kensett on Friday night.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Liam Robbins had a career-high 25 points plus 10 rebounds as Drake extended its home win streak to seven games, beating Mount Marty 92-74 on Tuesday night.

Roman Penn had 16 points and seven rebounds for Drake (9-3). Antonio Pilipovic added 11 points and Anthony Murphy contributed 10 points.

Colby Johnson had 19 points and six rebounds for the Lancers. Jordan Johnson added 19 points and seven rebounds. Chris King had 17 points.

Drake plays Air Force on the road on Saturday.

 

 

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA — Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says his team is mixing final exams with bowl preparations this week. The Fighting Irish play Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando. Kelly says they will conduct their first scrimmage on Thursday.

Kelly says the offense will be a collaborative effort in the bowl and he will not be calling plays. Offensive coordinator Chip Long was fired at the end of a 10-2 regular season after three years on the staff.

Kelly will wait until after the bowl game to hire a new coordinator.

The Camping World Bowl kicks off at 11 o’clock Iowa time on Saturday December 28th.

 

 

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tomas Nosek scored his first goal in nearly a month, Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2. It was the first time Vegas defeated Minnesota in regulation in seven tries since joining the league in 2017. It also marked the first time the Golden Knights won three straight at home this season. Chandler Stephenson and Shea Theodore also scored for the Golden Knights.
