LUBBOCK, TEXAS — Texas Tech coach Matt Wells says Iowa State is very similar to the Baylor team the Red Raiders lost to in overtime this past weekend. Tech is 3-3 and will host the Cyclones in Lubbock.

Wells says the Red Raiders expect to see a lot of Cyclone running back Breece Hall. The freshman piled up 132 yards in a win at West Virginia.

Kickoff in Lubbock on Saturday is scheduled for 11 o’clock.

 

 

FOREST CITY — Newman captured both the girls and boys team crowns at the Forest City Invitational cross country meet. On the girls side, Newman had four runners in the top 11, winning with 40 points. Forest City was second with 82, Osage third with 87. Abby Christians of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura won the girls race in 19:22. Lindsey Davidson of Northwood-Kensett was second in 20:35. Newman’s best runner was Olivia Schissel, who finished fifth in 21:38. On the boys side, Newman had three runners in the top nine to win with 59 points. St. Ansgar had the top two runners but finished second with 68, while Forest City was third with 91. Seth Hershey and Riley Witt of St. Ansgar were the top two runners, finishing with times of 16:32 and 16:37. Braden Petree, Joey Ringo and Ryan Kelly has Newman’s best finishes, placing seventh, eighth and ninth in times of 17:43 for Petree and 18:07 for Ringo and Kelly. RIVERSIDE – The NIACC men’s golf team tied for fifth with a 333 at the Region XI preview meet Monday at the Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.

DMACC was the preview champion with a 306 and Kirkwood was second with a 308. Iowa Central tied NIACC for fifth with a 333.

NIACC was led by sophomores Austin Eckenrod (41-40 – 81) and Jackson Hamlin (36-45 – 81). Also for the Trojans, Zach Martin shot 39-44 – 83, Matthew Heinemann shot 43-45 – 88, Beau Thompson shot 47-44 – 91.

NIACC golfers playing as individuals were Jackson French (39-41 – 80), Charles Lorenz (47-43 – 90) and Peter Stadheim (47-49 – 96).

Monday’s regional preview tournament wrapped up the fall season for the Trojans.

 

MASON CITY — Despite splitting four matches at the Iowa Central tournament over the weekend, the NIACC volleyball team remains ranked 20th in the latest junior college Division II rankings. Parkland of Illinois is ranked first, followed by Coffeyville of Kansas and Glendale of Arizona. Iowa Central is the only other Iowa Community College Athletic Conference team that is ranked this week, dropping three spots to 14th. Kirkwood was ranked 19th in last week’s poll but dropped out of this week’s rankings. NIACC is scheduled to travel to Iowa Falls Wednesday night to face Ellsworth

 

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Alex Stalock stopped all 26 shots he faced and the Minnesota Wild picked up their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Victor Rask and Zach Parise scored third-period goals for the Wild.
