DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson is leaving school early for the NFL.

The Hawkeyes announced on Monday that Hockenson, a redshirt sophomore, will join teammates Noah Fant, Anthony Nelson and Amani Hooker as early entrees in the draft.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Hockenson won the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end, in 2018. He caught 49 passes for 760 yards and six touchdowns last season, helping the Hawkeyes finish 9-4 and ranked 25th in the final poll of the year.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Megan Gustafson had 34 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for her nation-leading 15th double-double of the season and No. 22 Iowa beat No. 23 Minnesota 81-63 on Monday night.

It was Gustafson’s 70th career double-double. She was 16 of 22 from the field and also had three blocks.

Tania Davis added 21 points with seven assists for Iowa (12-4, 3-2 Big Ten). Hannah Stewart added 10 points and nine rebounds and Kathleen Doyle had 11 points, seven assists and a career-high four steals.

Iowa used a 24-9 third quarter to pull away as Minnesota was held to 23 second-half points.

Kenisha Bell scored 22 points for Minnesota (12-4, 1-4), which has lost four straight under first-year coach Lindsay Whalen. Taiye Bello notched her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

It was the Gophers’ second loss in 12 games this season at Williams Arena.

Mason City native Makenzie Meyer played 31 minutes but did not score. She handed out four assists and had two rebounds.

AMES — Iowa State coach Steve Prohm hopes sophomore forward Cameron Lard will play in Wednesday night’s game at Texas Tech. Lard missed Saturday’s loss at home against Kansas State with a sprained ankle.

Prohm says Lard was having his best stretch of the season when he suffered the injury at Baylor.

After starting the Big 12 race 2-0 the Cyclones have lost two straight.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — About two months after Jimmy Butler initiated their breakup, the Minnesota Timberwolves have headed out on the road to pay him a visit. They did their best to downplay the significance of the game at Philadelphia that will pit them against Butler for the first time since the trade, but there are sure to be some raw emotions on the court when they take on the 76ers. The question is whether they’ll stay bottled up.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — James van Riemsdyk recorded a hat trick, and Nolan Patrick had two goals and two assists to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 7-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Wayne Simmonds also had two goals for the Flyers. It was just the second win in the last 11 games for Philadelphia, which entered the night with the fewest points in the league. Jason Zucker, Marcus Foligno, Joel Eriksson Ek and Ryan Suter scored for Minnesota. The Wild dropped to 0-5-1 against Metropolitan Division teams.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have completed a $1.8 million, one-year contract with right-handed reliever Blake Parker, the team’s first offseason bullpen addition. The Twins have an opening for closer after trading Fernando Rodney, and Parker will be in the mix in spring training. The 33-year-old Parker had a breakout season for the Los Angeles Angels in 2017, with a 2.54 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings. Last year, Parker led the Angels with 14 saves in 17 opportunities and posted a 3.26 ERA.
