DES MOINES — Drake senior forward Nick McGlynn has been a key in the Bulldogs surprising run under first year coach Darian DeVries. The 6-8 McGlynn scored 22 points in Saturday’s win over UNI and surpassed one thousand points for his career.
Drake leads the Missouri Valley in scoring and one of the reasons is their ability to get quality shots before the defense can set up.
The Bulldogs visit Southern Illinois tonight. DeVries says a concern is Saluki point guard Aaron Cook, who averages more than 11 points per game.
Drake is 18-7 overall and 7-5 in the Valley.
CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobsen says the Panthers need improved defense as they get ready to host Illinois State on Wednesday night. The Panthers scored 77 points in a loss at Drake and 71 in a home loss to Bradley last week.
Jacobsen says both opponents last week played well on offense.
The Panthers are 5-7 in the Valley and 10-15 overall.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Derrick Rose and Jeff Teague gave a beleaguered backcourt a needed boost and lifted the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 130-120 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Lou Williams scored a season-high 45 points off the bench for the Clippers, making a season-best 16 free throws while going perfect from the line.
