NIACC voters asked to approve $15 million bond issue in March

MASON CITY — The North Iowa Area Community College Board of Directors this week approved placing a $15 million bond issue on the ballot on March 3rd.

The board approved the measure asking for approval for funds to use in the development of a Regional Career Center; expansion and enhancement of workforce training programs; provide for infrastructure improvements; upgrade classroom technology and lab spaces; safety, security and sustainability enhancements; as well as renovations to the North Iowa Community Auditorium.

School officials say it’s the first general obligation bond issue that voters in the NIACC region have been asked to approve in the college’s 100-year history.

NIACC says the approximate cost to taxpayers would be 84 cents per month in property taxes for a home that’s assessed at $100,000 valuation.
