Mystery objects falling from the sky may be spider ‘balloons’

Residents of California have reported mysterious objects falling from the sky. After some investigation, it appears that these objects are likely spider balloons, or webs created by spiders that are ballooning.

This phenomenon is used by several spider species to blow in the breeze from one habitat to another.

It is believed that the spiders are using this method to find food and homes without competing with their siblings.

Researchers also believe that shifts in the atmosphere’s electric fields are factors for when spiders weave balloons. Spiders play an important role in keeping an ecological balance.
