CLEAR LAKE — A Mason City woman originally found incompetent to stand trial after being accused of trashing a Clear Lake hotel room has been found competent and has pleaded guilty in the case.

32-year-old Jennifer Lindquist was accused of breaking furniture, a window and an air unit while yelling and screaming out the window, as well as throwing articles out the window at the America’s Best Value Inn at 1306 North 25th Street in Clear Lake in the early morning hours of April 3rd.

When officers arrived after responding at about 2:40 AM, Lindquist was the only person in the room, and they allegedly found a half-smoked marijuana roach on a counter near the door, as well as one gram of methamphetamine in her purse and on her person while being arrested. Lindquist was originally charged with second-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine.

A competency hearing in June found that Lindquist was suffering from mental illness and borderline personality disorder, with Judge Adam Sauer committing her to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center for treatment. Sauer recently ruled that Lindquist was competent, with Lindquist then pleading guilty to an amended charge of third-degree criminal mischief.

Sauer sentenced Lindquist this week to a suspended two-year prison sentence and placed her on two years probation.
