MASON CITY — A Mason City man wanted for starting a garage on fire last September has been arrested.

36-year-old Nathaniel Pope was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail on Sunday evening. He’s accused of being involved in an incident on September 12th where he allegedly was frequently texting a woman protected by a no-contact order. He also later was suspected of setting the woman’s garage on fire. The woman was not at home at the time of the fire.

Pope was arrested on Sunday in Mason City on a nationwide warrant and was charged with second-degree arson as well as interference with official acts. He’s being held in jail on a total of $22,000 bond. Second-degree arson is a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.
