Lake Mills man pleads not guilty in Mason City sexual abuse case

MASON CITY — A Lake Mills man accused of sexual abuse in Cerro Gordo County has pleaded not guilty.
20-year-old Benjamin Monson is accused of committing sexual abuse in Mason City twice, on October 31st and November 15th of last year. Court documents state the incidents happened at two different locations, with one of the female victims being unconscious and physically helpless at the time, with the other being forced against her will.
Monson recently pleaded not guilty to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse. His trial is scheduled to start on January 14th. If convicted of both charges, he’d face up to 20 years in prison.
Monson continues to be held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $20,000 bond.
