Heavy Snow Possible, Winter Storm Warning is in Effect.

Travel conditions will deteriorate across central and northern Iowa through today. A wintry mix has already fallen overnight and created slick, icy roads across northern Iowa. A wintry mix of light freezing rain and snow will continue this morning and change over to all snow through the afternoon hours. Moderate to heavy snow accumulations are expected. The snow will be of the heavy, wet variety, with strong gusty winds of 30 to possibly 45 mph at times. This could very well result in tree and power line damage with some power outages possible. The snow will diminish somewhat and become lighter into Sunday, but the tree and power impacts may continue with brisk winds continuing. Significant improvement isn’t anticipated until Sunday evening. Roads will become snow covered with limited visibilities producing quite hazardous travel conditions. People planning travel should be sure to monitor the latest forecast and road conditions before heading out.
