MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors approved scheduling the first consideration of amending the ordinance regarding the use of golf carts on roads in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Currently, golf carts can  be operated on certain county roads only for the purpose of traveling to and from a golf course located within the county. The county’s Director of Administrative Services Tom Meyer says a group has been studying possible recommendations to amend the ordinance. “This would expand that potentially where they could drive them in certain speed zones any time of the year during daylight hours.”

The supervisors unanimously approved setting their July 9th meeting for a public hearing and first reading of the amended ordinance. Three readings of the amendment are required before the changes would take effect.
